Olive, Extra Virgin Oil

Description

The olive tree is one of the oldest plants in the world. There is literature from the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans relating to the tree and its fruit. In ancient Greece, athletes ritually rubbed it all over their bodies for a mystical glow.

You may think Olive Oil is just for cooking, but jam packed with nutrients, vitamins and fatty acids, our Extra Virgin Olive Oil is perfect for your skin and hair too.

It contains a high amount, around 70%, of the essential fatty acid Oleic Acid, an Omega 9 acid which makes this oil super moisturising, ideal for those with very dry skin. The oil penetrates deeply into the skin and is known to provide a shield against the elements. It absorbs at a fairly slow rate so is ideal for those requiring intensive moisturisation.

It also contains a significant amount of the Omega 7 fatty acid Palmitoleic Acid, which is present in younger skin but diminishes with age. Olive Extra Virgin Oil is high in natural antioxidants and vitamins which makes it an excellent choice for skincare, particularly beneficial for those with mature skin. Antioxidants help fight damage causing free radicals in the skin that causes premature aging.

How to Use

Massage

Can be used on its own or combined with other oils to make your own massage oil blend. It does have a medium to slow absorption rate so you may want to combine it with a faster penetrating oil like Grapeseed (#210). Why not try adding some essential oils for added benefits?

Skincare

Olive Extra Virgin makes an excellent all over skin moisturiser. Use as a gentle and effective cleanser and make-up remover. Can be used as a natural alternative to commercial shaving foams. It will help prevent razor burn and moisturise the skin at the same time.

Haircare

Try Extra Virgin Olive Oil as a warm oil treatment to deliver those antioxidants directly to the root. You can use it by itself or combine with another hair loving carrier oil like Avocado Oil (#231). Warming the oil, helps it to penetrate the hair strand but make sure it’s not too hot, you don’t want to burn yourself. Massage the warmed oil into your hair and scalp and comb it through. Cover with a shower cap and leave for at least 30 minutes. Wash as normal. Top tip – add the shampoo to dry hair and begin to lather before adding water to begin to emulsify the oil so it will rinse out more effectively.

Beauty Hack

Use as an ingredient in skincare for creams, lotions, face and body oils, serums and balms.

Food Use

Spruce up your dishes by adding some oil to your cuisine. This versatile oil can be used in salad dressings, smoothies, pasta dishes, a dip for bread, drizzled over grilled fish or meat, roasted vegetables and many more. It adds flavour and richness.
